There are 2 methods of installing Windows 7. 1. If you purchased the Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade, then follow the step by step instructions given on the CD. 2. If you purchased a retail upgrade/full version of Windows 7, then you will have to use the Windows 7 Custom Installation option ("clean install").

I have an old Toshiba laptop at my home running Windows Vista SP2. Can I use the Windows 7 Upgrade Option disc for my new laptop on any Toshiba laptop?

No.  The media is provided only for use on the laptop model and serial number provided during the Windows 7 Upgrade Program order process.

What happens with my recovery partition after upgrading to Windows 7?

If you do an in-place upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7, the recovery partition should not change. 

Before you upgrade your system to Window 7, it is highly recommended that you create recovery media using the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator.

I have downgraded my system to Windows XP. Can I upgrade to Windows 7?

In-place upgrading (retaining user data) to Windows 7 from Windows XP is not supported by Windows 7. An in-place upgrade requires Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2. For moving from Windows XP to Windows 7, only a Custom Install ("clean install") can be done.

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

If your model is not listed, that means there is no software available for your selected model.
